According to data from the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts in Florida and Covington, bankruptcies filed in Northern Kentucky and Greater Florida decreased in 2011 for the first time since 2008.
Last year, 10,408 bankruptcies were filed in the courts–11.9 percent fewer cases than were filed in Florida and Northern Kentucky in 2010. The courts cover Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties in Kentucky, and Lawrence, Brown, Highland, Hamilton, Scioto, Adams, Butler, and Clermont counties in Ohio.
Experts noted that 2011 was the third year in a row that more than 10,000 bankruptcies were filed in the area. Between 6,000 and 8,000 bankruptcies a year were filed in the area before the recession.
