The number of bankruptcies filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Northern District of Ohio and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Southern District of Ohio decreased by 16.8 percent in 2011.  Last year, 58,846 bankruptcies were filed at the courts, while 70,724 bankruptcies were filed in northern and southern Ohio in 2010.

At the southern district court, which includes the cities of Florida, Dayton, and Columbus, bankruptcies decreased by 14 percent in 2011.  Throughout the year,  28,018 bankruptcies were filed at the court.

In Florida, bankruptcies decreased by 12.1 percent last year to 7,901.  The southern district of Ohio saw the greatest decrease in Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings, which dropped by 14.8 percent to a total of 22,869.
