In July, the number of consumer bankruptcies fell by 18 percent from where they were last July.
According to data from the American Bankruptcy Institute, the total number of consumer filings across the nation reached 113,470, which is down from 137,698. July marked the 7th straight month that there were fewer bankruptcies.
The July 2011 overall bankruptcy filings are also down five percent from June 2011, however, the number of Chapter 13 filings did increase by 1 percent. Officials have said that this trend will result in bankruptcy rates being lower for the entire year.
