Bankruptcy filings in Dayton have fallen for the first time since 2006. The filings represent only the first 5 months of the year and the first drop has been attributed to an overhaul of bankruptcy laws done by Congress.

Some attorneys in the area have said that the other part of the downfall can be attributed to multiple factors such as the slowing of foreclosures and the slight improvement in the economic times.

From January to May 2011, the bankruptcy filings are down nearly 14 percent, according to court documents. Across the country, this was also the trend, with an 8 percent decrease occurring.
