For the first time in a decade, the number of foreclosure filings have decreased in 2010 compared to 2009, according to information from the Ohio Supreme Court.

The reports show that there were 85,483 foreclosure filings in commercial and residential properties in 2010. In 2009, there were 89,061 new case filings. Since the court began recording the number of foreclosure filings in 1990, there has been a steady increase in filings since 2001.

The largest jump occurred from 2005 to 2006, when it increased by nearly 24 percent. Across the state of Ohio, 58 counties saw a decrease of foreclosure filings and 20 saw an increase.
